To use as a tea, pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 teaspoon herb, cover and steep 3 to 5 minutes.
Roasting chicory provides a bittersweet taste that resembles but, coffee lovers will agree, does not duplicate that of coffee. Some coffees offer blends with up to 30 percent chicory, which cuts down on the caffeine content of the blend.
