Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely minced
- 1 chili pepper, chopped
- 1 cup bourbon
- 3/4 cup Organic Ketchup
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
- 1/4 cup fresh squeezed lime juice
- 1/3 cup dark molasses
- 1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- Salt, to taste
Directions
- Over medium heat, add butter and oil to a large saucepan. Add onions and chilies; cook for 3-4 minutes, or until onions are transparent.
- Remove the pan from the heat and add bourbon. Return to stove and increase heat to medium-high to boil down the bourbon, about 5 minutes.
- Add Organic Ketchup, vinegar, lemon juice, lime juice, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Mix well and let the sauce simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Taste the sauce, and add salt, cayenne powder, and more brown sugar if needed to taste. Lower the heat and let the sauce cook slowly for 20 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
- Bottle and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
