Origin: Native to Australia. Cultivated in China and Brazil.
Botanical Description: A medium tall evergreen tree up to 50-meter (155 ft.) high. It has opposite, lanceolate green leaves with a strong lemony or citronella aroma.
Oil Extraction: Essential oil is obtained by stem distillation of the leaves of the mature trees. The oil is clear, colorless to pale yellow mobile liquid. Yield 2.3%.
Aroma Profile: The top note is fresh, strong rosy-citronella like. The body note is diffusive, citronella like. The dry-out is sweet, balsamic, floral.
Major Constituents: Citronellal (30 to 90%), citronellol (5 to 40%), isopulegol (1 to 10%).
Adulterants: Not typically adulterated.
Regulatory Status: GRAS 182.20. Approved as an insect repellant by FDA.
Aromatherapy: Refreshing, invigorating, cooling.
Blends well with: Lavender, peppermint.
