
Botanical Name: Eucalyptus globulus Labill.
Family: Myrtaceae.
Synonyms: Eucalyptus, blue gum, southern blue gum, Tasmanian blue gum.
Origin: Native to Australia. Now cultivated in Spain, Portugal, Russia, China and Brazil.
Botanical Description: A tall evergreen tree up to 75-meter (232 ft.) high with shedding bark. It has opposite, lanceolate bluish-green leaves with large creamy-white flowers.
Oil Extraction: Essential oil is obtained by stem distillation of the leaves of the mature trees. The oil is clear, colorless to pale yellow mobile liquid. Yield 1.5 to 3.5%.
Aroma Profile: The top note is fresh, powerful camphoraceous-cineolic. The body note is diffusive, penetrating. The dry-out is less tenacious, camphoraceous.
Major Constituents: 1,8-cineole (50 to 70%), α-pinene (10 to 25%), p-cymene, limonene.
Adulterants: Other species of eucalyptus.
